Welcome to Muncy's Organics Compost
Section.
| Compost is probably one of THE most important
(to us anyway) in growing healthy strong plants naturally.
We can't stress strongly enough how heavily we rely on compost.
We use both hot composted compost as well as Worm
Castings. Our compost is made up of various ingredients such
as Rabbit Droppings, lawn & garden waste, coffee grounds, kitchen/household
waste, shredded newspaper & cardboard & various other items
to make the best diversified product possible. |

Use it:
- 1.) As soil amendment enriching your soil whether you grow in pots
or in the ground.
- We mix our own potting soil here, part regular ole'
Florida lawn sand, part our compost, some Perlite, some TripleF, Worm
Castings & Rabbit droppings. If you're interested in purchasing
our ready made soil please contact us in advance so we can be sure
it's made up for you. This is available in short supply as we use
so much here so we of course have a list of people but will try to
fullfill your needs.
- .
- 2.) As mulch (top dressing) to help with retaining moisture &
weed suppression and as it breaks down and as water is applied it's
giving the soil a healthy dose of organic nutrient.
- We have FANTASTIC results from the start of a plants life but even
on existing older plants especially when used over a
layer of Worm Castings!
-
- Please Note: Partially 'finished' compost can be used for
this & as it finishes it's decomposing stage is still beneficial
as it giving the plant the above mention dose of organic nutrients.
Sifted compost will give you a better looking top dressing. The only
thing we might mention here is we've had some unfinished compost crust
over the surface during the curing stage while using it in this manner.
It's not that big a thing to gently break the surface up a bit &
things go along as planned. If you notice the surface not absorbing
water like it should, try breaking it up as mentioned. Also you would
want to follow the rule of keeping the compost about 2" from
the base/trunk of the plant. We've made a simple tool for breaking
the surface from time to time. It's basically a small plastic garden
fork attached to the end of a piece of 3-4' 1/2"PVC pipe (prevents
me from having to bend over with a bad back). Also breaking the surface
in this manner will help weed out weeds or unwanted seedlings that
may pop up.
- 4.) As tea & give your plants a healthy 'drink'.
-
We're almost religious about our usage of Tea both
Compost as well as of course Worm Tea. Brew up a batch (or pick
up some from us), cut it 3-5 times with water & give your plants
& or soil an instant infusion of micronutrients & micro
organisms! Use it as soil drench or a foliar spray & you'll
be amazed at the results!! We've brought back plants that were all
but dead with just a couple applications of Worm Tea & some
mulch as mentioned above.
Especially here in Florida with our sandy soil amending
the soil is a must!!! The ole saying of "Dig a $10.00 hole for
a $5.00 plant" comes into play here. When transplanting, dig an
extra large hole & mix compost in prior to planting. Or if it's
an existing plant "Top Dress" the plant by using the compost
as mulch. Either of these situations would also the best time to add
Worm Castings and give your plant
a VERY healthy soil to live in!!
We do offer the same compost we use on all our plants
for sale locally but at this point do not ship it & it is in short
supply at times due to our own needs & our clients. Feel free to
contact us for availability. Our compost is made with multiple input
items so as to have the best end product possible. It's pretty widely
accepted there's not much better quality than home made compost like
we make here. If you're interested in making your own check out
Compost Guide Website
They have some nice tutorials and information on making compost. I'm also working on
a page with some additional tips as to how we process & mix items here plus some additional links to help you get started in Copmosting.
