Worm Castings

We continue to be
TOTALLY AMAZED at the results experienced when Worm Castings are used
in various ways. We use these very same castings in our garden &
have some "Test Results" photos to post where we've applied
them to plants & not to others to watch the overall health &
growth rates as well as the pest preventative aspects of of them in
comparison. Watch for
these in the near future. The results have surprised us & will you
too!!
Worm Castings, also called Vermicompost,
or Vermicastings (among many others) is organic matter passed thru a
worms digestive system & turned into sort of a miniature time release
capsule that has many reasons why it's so fantastic for your plants
like:
- Can be used on all plants & won't burn as
some other treatments will
- Encourages Vigorous
Plant Growth · Fibrous Root System
- Expect heavier fruit / flower setting
- No odor, fumes or worry of human health concerns
when applying
- Helps with moisture retention
- Improved aeration of soil
- Biologically active, containing thousands of
soil enhancing bacteria & enzymes
- Studies being run show some pests/insects prevention
uses.
The countless contributions of worms & their
castings have not gone totally unrecognized. In ancient Egypt, Cleopatra
named the worm a sacred creature, whose removal from Egypt was punishable
by death. Rightfully so, because the Nile Valley is said to be the most
fertile tract of land on earth and it is literally one vast bed of earthworm
soil. Aristotle called them the intestines of the earth. Charles Darwin,
after 40 years of studying them, stated that it is likely that worms
are the most important creatures on earth.
The bacterial population of vermicast is much greater
than the bacterial population of either ingested soil, or the worm's
intestinal track. Castings offer a concentrated source (5-11 times more)
of calcium, magnesium, nitrogen, phosphates and potash as well as many
other trace elements and micro-nutrients in a form readily obtainable
by your plants. Worm castings should be mixed directly into your garden
soil when planting seeds or plants. Worm castings can also be used on
existing plants by mixing directly into the soil around the base and
drip line of your plants. Totally organic soil amendment that your plants
and you will love.
Usage Suggestions:
- Mix up to 20% in your soil mix when potting or
transplanting.
- Mulch existing plants with 1/4" - 1/2"
then cover with compost or mulch (Castings should not be allowed to
totally dry out)
- Make "Tea"
& give your plants a VERY healthy drink. (Be sure to check out
"PepperMike's Gallon Jug system.

We sell our castings ONLY by volume not
by weight (just like our Triple-F
Organic Plant Food.) Castings being a biologically active
product need to be kept moist but we don't build up the moisture
to increase the weight so you get what you pay for, not added
water!!
We also 'age' our castings. Castings freshly
removed from bins will still contain some undigested worm food
(this is commonly called vermicompost). "Aging" the
castings allows them to be 'worked' by the worms more. We've
seen say 10 gals. harvested & put in a bin for aging &
with nothing done with it within weeks it's down in quantity
10-20%. We try to get you what you purchase! How would you like
it if you went to the local grocery & purchased a gallon
of milk only to find a few days later when you went to use it
the container only contained 3 qts or so??
